London – As the election for the Non-Resident Nepali Association UK (NRNA UK) approaches, candidates are stepping forward for the coveted presidential post. Among them, current General Secretary Govinda Sharma Kharel has officially declared his candidacy for the term 2025–27.
Kharel announced his candidacy in the media, explaining that he was motivated by encouragement from senior leaders and colleagues. He highlighted his extensive experience in the NRNA campaign and expressed his intention to contribute to the community and country from a leadership role.
Before serving as General Secretary, Kharel was elected Vice President (2021–23) and earlier served as the Secretary of the England State Council (2019–21). He highlighted his long-standing involvement with NRNA UK and outlined his key priorities, which include promoting unity within the organisation, advocating for the continuation of Nepali citizenship for descendants of non-resident Nepalis, prioritising the welfare of Nepalis residing in the UK, and contributing to Nepal’s development from abroad.
An IT and F&B entrepreneur, Kharel has been widely praised for his selfless dedication and commitment to the organisation. He has previously served as the President of the Nottingham Nepali Society and as an adviser to the Gulmi Jilla Samaj UK.
Known as a result-oriented office bearer, Kharel has been credited with focusing on delivery over publicity during his time in the NRNA UK executive committee.
Meanwhile, Manish Khatri from Scotland and Rajendra Pudasaini from London have also entered the race, officially declaring their candidacies over the media for the upcoming elections.
