National Journalism Excellence Award to Editor Gautam

Kathmandu, Yauaraj Gautam, News Editor of Nepal News Bank, has been honored with the “National Journalism Excellence Award 2024.”

The award, presented by the Nepal Youth Council, recognized Gautam’s significant contribution to the field of journalism at a ceremony held in the capital on Tuesday. Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar conferred the award to Gautam.

Originally from Ilam in eastern Nepal, Gautam began his journalism career in 2003 as a distributor for the local weekly Pawan Bhumi. Over the years, he has served as a reporter for Spacetime Daily and Channel Nepal in Darjeeling and Ilam, a correspondent for Kantipur*’s *Weekly, Deputy Editor for Bhavi Nepal Weekly, Desk Editor at Image Channel, and Editor at Arthabazar.com.

Gautam currently serves as the News Editor of Nepal News Bank, one of Nepal’s most popular news agencies.

Alongside Gautam, the “Everest Brave Award” was presented to Kalpana Maharjan, who summited Mount Everest; the “Humanitarian Excellence Award” to Dr. Subash Pyakurel; and the “Sustainable Conservation Excellence Award” to Tilak Dhakal, promoter of Rainathe Khana.

The award selection committee, formed by Nepal Youth Council, included Global Youth Parliament President Diwakar Aryal, FAO youth expert Sabin Lamichhane, and social activist Sabita Upreti, recipient of the 2023 International Adventurous Woman Award. Recipients were chosen based on this committee’s recommendations.

During the event, Nepal Youth Council President Saroj Baniya highlighted the low presence of youth in policy-making roles, which has led to the neglect of many key issues. He urged the government to invest in youth and to declare an annual National Youth Year starting next year.
