London/This year’s Nepali Mela is happening this weekend at the usual place of Kempton Park Racecourse. Tamu Dhee UK, the organiser of the fair, confirmed that 90 per cent of the preparations were complete, with the rest due to complete before the event kicks off at 10 AM this Sunday.
The 13th anniversary of the Nepali Mela, the biggest fair of all, is being promoted with its organic slogan – ‘Our culture, our identity, our pride’. The Nepal Embassy of London, as a co-organiser of the event, has also been involved in promoting the event.
Holding a special press conference at Tamu Nepali Community Halll at Mychett last Sunday, the organiser highlighted the objectives of the fair saying that the event would, as usual, bring various Nepali organisations together to display and promote their culture and identity.
‘The Nepali fair will not only develop mutual harmony, love and fraternity among different Nepali communities in the UK, but will also help us to mingle with the local [British] community’, said Mr Hari Gurung, Senior Vice President of Tamu Dhee UK. Mr Gurung, also Coordinator of the event, added that Nepali Mela has always been promoting Nepali goods and services and also supporting the tourism in Nepal.
The 13th Nepali Mela 2022 will be held at TW16 5AQ, Staines Road, Sunbury-on-Thames this Sunday the 28th of August. The fair will last until 8 pm. The entry fee for those aged 12 years and above is set at £5, while parking fee for car and bus for the whole day have been set at £5 and £10 respectively.
As always, various ethnic and regional Nepali organizations will display their tableaus in the fair. The team winning the first place in tableau (costume, dance, music, etc.) performance will receive £500, the second place will get £300 , and the third place will get £200. A total of 32 organizations will participate in the fair.
Similarly, there will be a raffle draw at the fair. Anugraha Jewelers will sponsor the first prize of 1 tola gold in the raffle draw. The second and third prizes will be iPads, one sponsored by Dilras Gurung of Gorkha Travels and another sponsored by Suman Gurung of Everest Link.
A total cost of £32,000 has been projected for organising the fair. But the Event Coordinator Hari Gurung told reporters that the cost of the fair can almost be met with funds from Tamu Dhee UK’s own members, Nepal Embassy London, other individuals, organizations, well-wishers, sponsors and various sources.
In the presence of senior members and advisors of the Tamu Dhee UK, the press meet was chaired by Hitkaji Gurung, President of Tamu Dheem UK, and was conducted by General Secretary Parshu Gurung. Mr Dhruwa Raj Aryal, Editor of Nepali Link.com and the president of the FNJ UK; Mr. Khusi Limbu – Chief Editor of Nepal Mamila and NRNA UK General Secretary; Mrs Goma Rana, President of the FONIJ UK; and editors from leading UK-based Nepali media were present at the conference. Sabindra Kumar Gurung, Media Secretary of Tamu Dhee UK, introduced all the journalists present at the press conference.
