July 12, 2024, the 2024 graduation ceremony of Nanhai Buddhist College was held at the International Conference Center of the college. This was not only a celebration for the 44 undergraduate graduates of Nanhai Buddhist College but also a graduation celebration for the 22 first graduate students and 44 students from Cambodia and Nepal.
In his speech, Venerable Yin Shun, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, vice president of the Buddhist Association of China, and president of the Nanhai Buddhist Academy, first expressed his sincere thanks and high respect to the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the United Front Work Department of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and other provincial and municipal departments and all walks of life, and extended a warm welcome to Elder Di Phan and his entourage, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Religion of Cambodia Myitsuna and his entourage, and the president of Nepal’s Lumbini Buddhist University, Subarna, and his entourage. Congratulations to the 110 graduates. He recalled the good times spent by the students in the college, as well as the efforts made by the college in promoting the Sinicization of Buddhism, promoting traditional Chinese culture, and strengthening international Buddhist cultural exchanges.
In particular, the great monk Yinshun mentioned that in the past year, the college welcomed the first batch of 44 Cambodian and Nepalese students, who systematically studied courses such as “Fundamentals of Chinese Buddhism” and “Chinese Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing” to improve their Chinese proficiency and sublimate their understanding and love for Chinese history and Chinese Buddhism. A total of 16 students have passed the HSK Chinese proficiency test, 7 of whom are Level 3 and 9 are Level 1.
At the same time, the school combines theory and practice to encourage international students to participate in various cultural exchange activities, on the one hand, to improve their Chinese language ability, on the other hand, to broaden their horizons, and to enhance their understanding and respect for different cultures.
They truly felt the vastness of China’s territory, the magnificence of mountains and rivers, and the splendor of civilization by visiting Nanshan Temple in Sanya, Hongfa Temple in Shenzhen, Guangxiao Temple in Guangzhou, Bao’en Temple in Wuhan, Ci’en Temple in Dahongshan, Xiaogan Xinqian Temple, and other Buddhist temples, as well as participating in the Dahongshan Zen Culture Forum in Suizhou. They conscientiously studied Chinese Zen culture and art such as calligraphy, painting, paper–cutting, tea art, etc., and actively participated in traditional festivals such as the Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid–Autumn Festival, and experienced the profound traditional Chinese culture, which enhanced the friendly feelings with the Chinese people, as well as their understanding and love for Chinese culture.
Over the past year, 44 overseas students have left their youthful demeanor of diligence and diligence, and their ardent enthusiasm for and love for China, which has become a campus scene with unique exotic customs and cultural charm on the coast of the Nanhai, and an eternal and beautiful memory for all teachers and students of Nanhai Buddhist College.
At present, more than 20 international students have applied for the opportunity to study Chinese and continue their studies at other universities in China.
Monk Yinshun also reviewed the experience of all the teachers and students of the college in overcoming many difficulties and actively participating in public welfare charity and volunteer services, praised the outstanding performance of the teachers and students in the Boao Forum for Asia Religious Sub–forum, South China Sea Buddhism Roundtable, Charity Bright Walk, Nepal Zhonghua Temple and other brand activities, and encouraged everyone to continue to work hard, adhere to the “Dharma as a teacher” and “precepts as a teacher”, establish a life for Buddhism, promote the Dharma for the times, and add glory to the family and country’ Shouldering the heavy responsibility of solemn land and benevolence, we will apply the wisdom of Buddhism to practical life, and contribute to the development of Buddhism in the new era and the harmonious progress of society.
In his speech, Elder Di Phhan, a member of the Supreme Committee of Cambodia’s Major Sects, said that with the efforts of Venerable Yinshun, the friendship between Cambodia and China has developed deeper and deeper, and has demonstrated to the world the progress in the field of Buddhist education.
Jue Long, the representative of international students from Cambodia, Liu Shijie, the representative of graduate students, and Professor Huang Xiannian, the representative of the faculty, spoke successively, expressing their gratitude to Nanhai Buddhist College and their prospects for the future.
Jue Long said that through his studies at Nanhai Buddhist College, he has gained a deep understanding of Chinese Buddhist culture and hopes to bring these gains back to Cambodia to share with more people. He said that Nanhai Buddhist College is not only the school where we graduated, but also the second hometown of our international students.
Liu Shijie said that he cherished the opportunity to study, listen to the Dharma and study at Nanhai Buddhist College, and was grateful to Nanhai Buddhist College for rising from the ground and providing a high–quality learning and living environment for the Buddhas. Thanks to the careful cultivation of the teachers and teachers of the college, I am determined to continue to study Buddhism and practice diligently in the future, so as to live up to the Nanhai and achieve good fortune.
Professor Huang Xiannian encouraged the graduates to apply the knowledge they have learned to their future growth, build a platform for life and work with faith and knowledge, and sow the beautiful seeds of Nanhai Buddhist College wherever they go in the future, so that the flowers of Nanhai can bloom all over the world.
Wang Yuzheng, Deputy Director of the United Front Work Department of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee, extended warm congratulations to the graduates on behalf of the United Front Work Department of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and the Hainan Provincial Bureau of Religious Affairs in his speech. I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to the teachers and staff who have worked hard to cultivate and accompany everyone’s growth, as well as all walks of life who have supported and helped the development of the college over the years’
He affirmed the achievements of Nanhai Buddhist College in cultivating high–quality Buddhist talents, and put forward hopes and requirements for the future development of the college. He encouraged the graduates to adhere to the right faith and righteous deeds, take a good journey of patriotism, love the religion and benefit the people, care for the country, love the country and the religion, study diligently, and benefit the masses. He asked the college to continue to adhere to the correct direction of running the school, improve the level of running the school, deepen international exchanges, make full use of the geographical advantages of Hainan and the advantages of the open policy of the free trade port, give full play to the role of the golden bond of Buddhist culture, make good use of the platforms such as the Boao Forum for Asia Religious Sub–forum, play an active role in the practice and exploration of promoting good–neighborliness and friendship, cultural dissemination, international exchanges, etc., and contribute the wisdom and strength of Buddhism to the promotion of the “Belt and Road” initiative and the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port.
Finally, he expressed the hope that the 44 students from Cambodia and Nepal will benefit all sentient beings and the masses after returning to China, become important envoys of cultural exchanges between China and Cambodia and China and Nepal, and make Buddhist contributions to jointly promoting peace, stability and development in the Nanhai region and the world.

Finally, all the teachers and students sang the “Song of the Three Treasures”, and the 2024 graduation ceremony of Nanhai Buddhist College came to a successful conclusion. The 110 graduates will carry the blessings of their alma mater and embark on a new journey with their dreams. No matter where they go, this beautiful coast of the Nanhai will always be their spiritual home.
